Black River Canoeing

Canoeing the Black River

Info/Permission Slip – Canoeing 2017

For canoeing this year (Sept. 8-10 )we are headed down the Black River starting at Black River Falls, WI and finishing near Melrose – about 19 miles. The Black River on this route is a pleasant, relatively shallow river. This makes it an excellent canoe camping experience for the whole troop.

Friday night we will be camping at Castle Mounds State Park near Black River Falls. On our way there we will make a fast food stop in the Wisconsin Dells area – about 2 hours after we leave Grafton.

Saturday morning we’ll have breakfast in camp and then put our canoes in, as early as possible, at a canoe launch point just downstream from the town of Black River Falls. Lunch will be on shore or on an island somewhere along the river route.

We’ll be paddling for about 5 hours on Saturday to get to our intended camping site on a large sandbar about 15 miles downstream. Then we will finish the remaining approx. 4 miles on Sunday morning.
